Greet, Read, and Adjust

Greet, Read, and Adjust.
 
When students come into the classroom, greet them at the door.  As you greet them, check their moods.  Does the student seem angry, sad, happy, hurt?  Read the mood, and then adjust your own responses.  Sometimes, a child will need an extra warm greeting; sometimes, the child will need more boundaries; sometimes, the child will need to talk.  Tune in to your students so that they don't tune out.
